Potential, Progress and Pride

3 Feb

2014 Presentation

There is no hiding from that warm feeling as more students start to recognise their true potential and work towards the life that they dream of. It was lovely to host an awards ceremony to acknowledge the fabulous progress of some of our students. They really take pride in their work and themselves; they will make a big difference in their communities. It was fabulous seeing their joy and the pride on the faces of their family.

Now we are focussing on driving this program out across London as even with an education system, in all honesty, it is not resourced to provide the holistic education that we offer. The cuts may have slowed down the opportunities of future generations but thankfully, they are picking themselves up and reaching for the stars. Self belief is all important; once it is found, the results are quite magical. These are our true leaders of tomorrow.

An important part of the Ebony Gold Education Courses, an educated heart is often attached to an open, receptive mind.

The Little Known Secret to a Productive Mind…

13 Jul

Dream-itCodey-learns-cot-blanket

You may notice here that I say to a productive mind and not just learning. Yes, in the young a productive mind is learning new things all the time and in that case, we need them to retain this learning. As a person gets older, a productive mind is one which is thinking about better ways of getting important things done OR just relaxing and thinking about the positives after. Another good day.

So, this morning I woke up smiled at this beautiful sunny warm day and thought, it’s time for part 2. Last time we spoke about confidence, now lets think about training our minds up to make the best of our channeled confidence.

Many teenagers I teach say to me. ‘But misssssss, I can’t remember all of that! ‘ it’s their very favourite excuse. I don’t accept that because I know that in using the correct techniques, the techniques that Ebony Gold Education has worked on for years. My students are taught that homework tasks or any revision matters are best carried out as near to bedtime as possible. Where the mind relaxes, it is amazing what it will keep filed up there. When you think about it, as teenagers love to sleep so much, we could be on the verge of developing a new generation of geniuses! The techniques which have been proven in our results year after year are taught at an early stage and developed through the program.

One of the best things about it is this is a discipline which carries through to use right through life. Personally my mind works fantastically when I’m asleep, it wakes up positive and ready to embrace all that it needs to process for the day. It’s like martial arts for the mind, keeping it focused peaceful and with set goals. Most of all like martial arts, once you begin to master it, no-one can force your mind into corners where it ends up having to battle it’s way out. It always sees the light.

For students I say, sleep on it and repeat it as soon as possible after waking. Don’t worry and have faith in yourself, let that confidence through.

Codey Learns carries all of the resources needed to enhance and embed the teaching and learning from Ebony Gold Education. One of my favourites is the Embroidered Alphabet Cot Blanket. This starts the training at the earliest point but in a fun and luxurious way. Have a look, I have included a picture because I love it. It even has a pocket for tidy items and a hood for snuggle up and learn moments. If you would like to get one directly, you could visit Greenwich Baby in South East London or contact me directly at jacquigold@codeylearns.co.uk more designs will follow.

So to put it all together, today’s message is that when the mind learns to relax, it can remember and process much more than we give it credit for. The key is being able to relax the mind and allow it to focus on the positive things that will make steps towards that dream life.

I have a PowerPoint that I am happy to share with you FREE of charge . It explains in more detail the reasoning behind the above technique.Either follow me, email me directly on jacquigold@codeylearns.co.uk or comment with your email.

Have a blessed weekend.I’m going into the garden with a cold drink to chill with my babies.Speak soon 😀 xx

The Ultimate Guide to Making Your Dream Life..

10 Jul

As my students come to me, many of them have little belief in what exactly their strengths are. They often lack confidence and don’t know what they can achieve or how to use it in life. Without these key ingredients , it is quite hard to focus on the end game. The end game, in the Ebony Gold Education view and also the Codey Learns view is not only success in qualifications but also in confidence, self esteem and emotional intelligence. These all lead to the life that you want, it puts you more in charge of the process, journey and outcome. Today I am giving you part 1 of the method delivered to students. I hope you get involved, it’s quite an interesting exercise.

The Secrets Behind gaining Killer Confidence.

1. Write down 10 positive things you love about yourself.
This is so important as we are living in a world in which we are encouraged not to look at ourselves in this way. There is nothing wrong with knowing what you do well though. This will not make you less humble. I have included:
1.I am tall and elegant.
2. I have nice eyes that sparkle.
3. I have 2 beautiful children.
4. I am kind with a big heart.
5. I love to teach

I could go on and on….. They are small things but I feel great about them. Lets see what you have.

2. Now write down 10 positive things about your environment. Do you live in a great street?,have you got fabulous neighbours?….

3. Write down 5 reasons you feel secure everyday. An example might be that you speak to your mom daily.

4. Can you really laugh at yourself when you do something silly? Personally, I love to laugh and many times a day! My daughter shakes her head at me so many times. It’s liberating and you won’t so much mind others joining in.

5. Think about at least one way everyday in which you can show kindness to another. This is humbling but beneficial and will really add to your day and someone else’s too. Chances are they will pass on the favour too.

This is the first step on that ladder and you may find it difficult to start. I do promise you though, that once you start in earnest, you will begin to realise what a fabulously unique person you are and what you have to contribute.

Next time we will start to have a look at part 2. Confidence is key folks, love yourself first and love for others and from others will follow. A little change can mean a lot!Change-your-look-at-life

Speak soon. Stay safe, keep smiling and enjoy the sun. 😀 xx

Codey Learns Apprentice -The search begins

9 Jun

So I woke up quite excited today. I am starting the search for the first apprentice for Codey Learns Ltd today. Getting all of the paperwork together and finally getting things moving. Do you know what is the best part, it is knowing that this is going to help another young person begin life or move their life in the direction of their dreams. You see, when I teach, I always tell my students that their success is down to their hard work. I merely steer the ship if it veers off course. This is another case of exactly that, it will be steering a little more of an experienced ship to its next destination . My passion is in helping the young to make the most out of this fabulous life, there is enough room for everyone to take a big old chunk. They just have to want it. This is why I know that the first attribute that applicants must have is drive or vision…. This was nearly lost with me as a teen.

Let me take you back to a time when I was in Year 9. It is such a pivotal day that I will always remember it. That morning I woke up deciding that life would end on that day. So I got all that I ‘needed’ to bring it to an end, went into school early as usual. It was sunny but a little chilly that early in the morning. I recall pulling up my blazer collars whilst sitting in the playground thinking. I looked around at the tall buildings and the silence and felt absolutely happy with what would come next. With hindsight I know that that wasn’t happiness, that was just wanting peace. And then some of the reasons for my sadness came tearing through the silence like a pack of rabid dogs. They were gathering around, pulling my clothes, up in my face snarling horrid comments. I got up and went inside to registration, no, my first decision this morning was the right one.

I sat in registration, answered my name and didn’t say much more. After registration, as everyone went off to lessons, I could think of nothing worse, so I picked up my ‘kit’ and headed for the door. As I walked down the almost clinical corridors to walk out, I almost smiled. But then came the voice that changed by direction, not only literally but forever! ‘Where do you think you’re going’ the voice sounded so large, so loud, so powerful but Miss Carabin was actually tiny. She stood there with her shaved head, partly dyed red, what we termed hippy clothes, pink cheeks and a half knowing smile. She led me back in and spoke gently as she coaxed everything out of me. That day I was moved out of the class with the rabid dogs, things began to get brighter. In fact, im so lucky to be able to have changed my life through education and having a big heart.imageThere was other stuff but as far as the educational parts went, my life restarted. There is something more about those rabid dogs, I saw one again a few years ago, just in passing, it is an amusing story but if you don’t mind I will save it for another time..

After that, you will excuse my excitement and real gratification for being in this position today. My mom might have been grieving if Miss Carabin had not come along but instead today she is an ever proud mom and grandmom. I know that I have been given life for a reason. Everyone has a story that no one knows about. I am grateful to be able to offer a hand to someone else to take that step in the right direction. I’m excited to be able to contribute in this way because this will be the first of many.

As the process begins, I tell you hand on heart, I appreciate every hand that was ever put out to me. Now I am putting mine out too. It’s so hard for young people today to spot the opportunities and see clearly how they can benefit. Miss Carabin, my grandad and Aunt Ita (RIP) are perhaps my greatest influences and who I learned the most from but believe me, if I started this list of my influencers, it would be huge!

I will let you know what happens as the applications start coming in.
Have a great day and a great week 😀

Other Environmental Issues

27 May

if we really stop and think, we are all pretty well educated on the need to alter our practices in order to save the planet. The majority of us will recycle, shut off energy when not in use and other means of preserving the natural environment. With this being so, I don’t understand why the message does not translate as well about changing our practices to preserve our relationships between fellow citizens of this earth. When we look at the events of the last few weeks on the streets, it is so sad.it makes me question what lesson has fallen by the way side that has led to people not being able to talk and instead doing these awful things. Emotional intelligence is so important for any society.

So the next question must be, when is the best time to start this education, you know, to make the most impact? Ideally, it would be from birth. As parents, we would like to think that we educate our children to listen, ask questions and act in a kind, humane way. This makes such a difference and you can see this in many people. Lets say for argument sake though, that the lessons don’t hit home at the first attempt. Surely then the best times for these lessons are everyday of our lives.

A kind word, a loving thought, a smile even. All of these things can only be returned positively. They can change a whole day. The truth is everyone has things happening in their life that no-one knows about, and life can seem a lonely place. You know I learned that from experience. As I said last week, there were times when I felt like there was no way forwards. Thankfully, I was caught early by Miss Elaine Carabin, I was 14 and worked since then on looking in front of me and living for now. In many ways, my future as an educationalist started with Miss Carabin. Not everyone is as lucky though. They do not have someone to really help them to sort out their feelings, their passions, their fears. Sometimes what is needed is a way of channeling feelings until a positive response is reached.

I have dedicated my business to teaching students of all ages to get to this. A point where they can recognise opportunities, have confidence, recognise that everyone contributes in this world and whilst sometimes its hard to understand, a positive response with love stirred in will always be most effective. The message is clearer.

The level of hatred displayed in our world everyday says clearly that there is another environmental issue that needs work. Let this week be one in which we start to recycle those bad feelings and start to love again. Let this be the week that if someone, no matter how old or young needs to talk, we try to listen and hear. Lets work towards having not just a clean sustainable earth but great love in the hearts of its inhabitants. In reality we need both. My heart is with all of those affected by the Woolwich Tragedy and indeed around the world.

I will be smiling and saying good morning as I go about my days this week as always. If you don’t, just try it, the day feels that much better for it. Have a good week. 😀

Changing Faces

6 May

Over the last few days my mind has been quite squarely on how as a society, we do not spend the time to actually look at each other as we interact. Okay yes, it’s great that technology speeds everything up and more can be done through a computer or smart phone but I honestly believe that so much is being missed because of this. It became even clearer in an English lesson I was teaching, these kids have their exams approaching rapidly and are quite stressed. I asked a young lady to read out her answer to a question and she refused. Now I always have confidence in my students so I took her book and started to read it out. She was so upset and stood up and shouted ‘I said no! ‘ . This was new to me because we don’t have those reactions in my classroom as a norm. I asked her to step outside.

This request was not to tell her off but in that moment, when she shouted, I caught a look in her eyes and she was scared. When I took her outside of the room, I spoke to her of the need for her to have confidence in herself. It’s so important, if she has no confidence then she would struggle to get her answers down. She said she knows but was afraid of everyone laughing at her, I gave her a hug and reassured her that that would not happen because she showed courage in writing an answer. There were people in the room who had not even done that. By the end of that few minutes, it became more apparent that somehow, somewhere the emotional needs of this child had been ignored. She came back though, I even got a smile before the end of the lesson.

Perhaps there is a message in education because Anti Bullying Campaigns and policies only seem to scratch the surface of the problem. To a large extent, reporting has gotten in the way of actually getting to know students personalities, looking in their faces, helping them recognise their strengths and being proud of what they can do. That little bit of extra confidence and positivity can work wonders in their outcomes. In reality too, this will be one more adult ultimately walking tall, confident, smiling, spreading love and spreading the message to future generations that they can do anything if they do it with love and confidence.

I think that this will be my opening message in the upcoming GCSE Revision Day. Always believe that something wonderful is about to happen. Feel happy and enjoy the ride because you have it within you to achieve anything, one of the central themes of Codey Learns (www.codey-learns.co.uk). I love what we do so much. I really feel like there is nothing better than those faces on results day.

But when I think about that student this week and the tears in her eyes, I know that I will always work towards drying those tears wherever they appear. Happiness will lead to success and everyone deserves this. Everyone has a battle that we may not know about, a smile will take them one step towards winning.

See you next week 😀image
