Aside 22 Mar

And so at the end of another week I can’t help but think there is nothing I would rather do than teach. It’s so so great when I see growth in a student, when they start taking note of what they can do! The jokes too, they make me laugh constantly and inspire me to develop more techniques to help them. I can understand though, when a year 11 told me today, it’s getting scary now.. What happens after the exams when it’s up to us what comes next. They must be taught their strengths earlier so that the fear becomes excitement filled.

Aside 11 Mar

I have to say, it makes sense why students lack belief in themselves. Teachers are left with little choice in the classroom but to focus on preset performance targets. This unfortunately takes away from the caring, nurturing side of the profession. Students like to feel like they are more than results, like we really care but it does not shine through often enough. I feel fortunate to be able to do both, I care deeply and show them that they can reach those targets and beyond. They keep the ship moving, I only set its course and help keep it in the right direction.
